Salamandastron
Entrances
All entrances in and out of Salamandastron are well-hidden and can be blocked by boulders during times of war.
Levels
There are four levels and at least one basement level to Salamandastron.
Level 4: Top level with the crater above it; this holds the water vats and a water spring. If this level is one level up from the Badger Lord’s chambers, which is likely, then this level also contains the forge and the badger armory, as well as a dead end with a crack in the wall that can be opened by badgers to enter the secret chamber with the mountain’s history, prophecies, and the tombs of past badger lords.
Level 3: This level contains all the armory chambers. Possibly the Badger Lord’s chambers are situated on this level as well; all that is known is that the Badger Lord’s chambers are “quite high up in the levels of mountain chambers,” according to Salamandastron.
Level 2: This level holds the dormitories; everybeast has a private room. There is a separate section of this level for bachelors.
Level 1: Ground Level: After a long spiral staircase from the dormitories on level 2 is the ground level which holds the larders, kitchens, and the dining hall with its long oaken trestle tables and the huge carved chair at one end for the Badger Lord.
Basement 1: This holds a funeral chamber with slabs for bodies.
Badger Lord’s Chamber
It’s uncertain which level this is at—probably the third or fourth level of the mountain. It’s big and comfortable in a rough way, with a cushion-strewn rock ledge for a bed, and wooden shutters on a long rectangular stone window frame.
A nursery, sickbay, meeting chambers, prison, and lookout caves are also in Salamandastron but it’s never mentioned in the books where these are situated in Salamandastron.
Likely the nursery and sickbay are on the same level as the dormitories. Lookout caves are probably on the upper levels of the mountain.
Gardens on the outside of the mountain provide food for the occupants of Salamandastron.
